How consignment works

1. Show us the piece — in the shop, by photograph, or at the house.
2. We agree a price and a split in writing, along with how long it stays on the floor and what happens if it doesn't sell.
3. It goes on display at 6240 Shirley Street, alongside the rest of the collection, and is offered to the designers, collectors and regulars who shop with us.
4. You're paid when it sells. No fees up front, no storage charges.

What consigns well

Sterling silver, small and medium furniture with good lines, paintings and prints in period frames, mirrors, lamps and lighting, porcelain and glass, decorative objects with presence. In a word: the things that a designer walks in looking for on a Tuesday afternoon.

Very large case pieces, anything in poor condition, and reproductions are harder to sell on consignment; we'll tell you if a piece is better sold outright or sent to auction.

Consign, sell, or auction?

• Consign when you can wait, and the piece is the sort of thing our Naples buyers are looking for. Higher return, slower clock.
• Sell to us when you want it done today, or when there's a deadline behind you. What we buy.
• Auction when a piece is rare, signed or documented enough to draw collectors from further afield. How auction placement works.

We'll recommend one, and we'll tell you why. Sometimes an estate uses all three.
